Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, for extra fudginess)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature (for frosting)
  • 45 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar), sifted
  • 35 tablespoons heavy cream or milk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of fine sea salt (for frosting)
  • Gel food coloring (red, green, or desired festive colors)
  • Red, green, and white candy melts (for decorating)
  • Mini candy bows or holiday sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, melt the unsalted butter and mix in the granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and fine sea salt, then fold into the wet ingredients.
  5. Stir in the optional semi-sweet chocolate chips, if using.
  6. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. To make the buttercream frosting, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually add the sifted powdered sugar.
  9. Add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and fine sea salt, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
  10. Optional: Add gel food coloring to achieve desired colors and mix well.
  11. Once the brownies are cooled, spread a generous layer of frosting on top.
  12. Decorate with candy melts and sprinkles as desired.
  13. Slice and serve!
