Description

A cozy spiced apple cider, perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Fuji, sliced)
  • 2 sticks cinnamon (preferably barky cinnamon sticks)
  • 4 whole cloves (whole, pungent cloves)
  • 1 lemon (fresh slices for brightness)
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cups water (enough to cover the fruit)

Instructions

  1. Slice the apples into thin wedges, removing any cores, and set aside.
  2. Place the sliced apples into a large saucepan along with cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and lemon slices.
  3. Pour water over the fruit and spices, ensuring they are submerged.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, listening for soft bubbling and fragrant aromas.
  5. Let it simmer uncovered for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and the house smells cozy.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and fish out the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and lemon slices.
  7. Stir in honey or maple syrup to add a warm sweetness, tasting and adjusting as needed.
  8. Strain the cider through a fine sieve into a pitcher or mugs, catching any remaining solids for a clear, fragrant beverage.
  9. Pour the warm cider into mugs, garnishing with extra lemon slices or a cinnamon stick if desired.
  10. Enjoy your cozy, fragrant mug of spiced apple cider, perfect for chilly evenings or seasonal celebrations.
